Have you ever seen a toddler refuse to eat vegetables, then eat four servings when offered with a side of ranch dressing to dip? The problem for the egg intolerable is most clean ranch recipes include eggs. Or they come out not tasting authentic. Not to worry. This aquafaba based egg free ranch dressing is the answer.

What is vegan ranch made of?

Most store bought vegan ranch dressings include things like potato starch, gums and canola oil. This clean recipe includes just a few clean ingredients. The base of this vegan ranch includes two main ingredients for its stellar texture.

  • Aquafaba: the liquid from a can of chickpeas which whips up into an egg like creaminess.
  • Avocado oil: a clean, neutral tasting oil.

A vegan ranch dressing without coconut milk

If you have experimented with vegan ranch recipes, I am sure you have come across those that include coconut milk. While some are okay, I find the texture and flavor are never quite authentic enough. You can add a bit of coconut milk to this recipe at the end if you would like to thin it out. Or you can add water. I prefer to leave it as is and find it perfect for a salad or letting my two year old dip a pound of cucumbers into.

Do I need mayo to make this dressing?

Definitely not. But if you have a surplus of homemade vegan mayonnaise and want to turn it into ranch dressing, just mix these ingredients together (I can’t guarantee the flavor when using any other mayo recipe except the one linked, as that’s the only one I have tried):

  • 1 cup mayo
  • 3/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill

How long does homemade ranch dressing stay fresh?

Homemade ranch dressing will stay fresh in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days. It doesn’t freeze well, as it loses its texture and turns into a runny mess.

Description

An egg free dump ranch recipe that is dairy free, gluten free, vegan and simple to prepare. Great for dipping or over a salad.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup aquafaba*
  • 3/4 cup avocado oil
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a mason jar or blending container of choice.
  2. Blend, using a hand/immersion blender until you reach a mayo consistency – about 45-60 seconds.
  3. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

*Aquafaba is the liquid from a can of chickpeas/garbanzo beans. I generally use the organic can from Trader Joe’s, which is salted. If you use another brand, just make sure the can is BPA free. You can also substitute one whole, large egg.

If you prefer your dressing more thin, you can add up to 1/4 cup water or unsweetened, canned coconut milk.

You can also make this recipe using this egg free mayo. See post above for instructions.
